Chestnut Oak
Falling, down toward the cold earth; I can't pause to ponder my situation.
Released by my creator, I tumble through the limbs.
I land with a thump and am faced with another quandary,
A feeling inside, an insatiable hunger.
Days turn to nights,
As time goes by everything seems to grow around me.
But eventually everything changes, and the exact opposite begins to happen.
The blades of grass I've watched grow begin to shrink,
The rock I've laid next to seems only a pebble.
But are they changing? Or is it me?
Climbing higher, it's as if a life time has passed.
My roots run deep, and my limbs reach wide.
I have ascended to the top,
With the sun's rays radiating through the boughs, a gentle breeze ripples through my leaves.
My life has come full circle, though I have many years left.
Watching over the forest, I will stand tall and observe all that may happen.
I am the Chestnut Oak
