I Think This Is Cool
A couple years ago my Nana told me that she saw the Virgin Mary and I thought-
That’s cool
I told her in reply
That I once saw a hawk rip apart a rabbit
Limb from limb
In the parking lot of my church
And I walked out of the room
Three months ago, in environmental science class
I started to say something really brash to my weird teacher
Then I noticed she was wearing silver cross earrings
And I got really nervous and I got really red
And I thought-
What if she is the Virgin Mary
Three months ago my mom asked me why
I had started going back to church
And I told her it was because
I had found God in the most unusual places
And all of a sudden
When I look at certain people and certain things
I get really nervous
And really red
My best friend Alyssa doesn’t believe in God
She says that she’d “rather not
manifest her sorrows
in a disillusionment”
She is by far the smartest person I know.
My brother doesn’t believe in God
He says “Church is stupid, God is stupid, and you’re stupid”.
He is by far the greatest person I know.
I never get mad because it makes perfect sense
It makes perfect sense
They’re very very right
What you believe is what you believe because it’s what you believe
And that is absolutely right.
Three months ago
My mom found a poem that I had written a few years back
The last line of the poem said
“Dear God you’ve made me oblivious so that I’d learn to see
I know somewhere along the line I’ll see that you’ve found me”
I thought that was cool
