Not You
If you were you,
Then I would always be true
To the love we once knew.
The you that didn’t want
To be anyone else
But the quite, cute, smart
Boy who dared to date
Me,
The tall, weird, and quirky girl.
If you only knew,
How much I hoped
And begged the inner you,
To stay true
Not new.
To stay different
And not conform to the norm.
But I guess you knew,
What you wanted would
Get rid of me too.
Was that what you meant
To do?
Leave me for your
Mean, prejudiced, and rude
Friends vs.
The girl who said she would
Love you till the very end.
I told you that I knew,
That I would fall in love with you.
But I don’t think I ever loved you.
I think I confused love
With acceptance,
And spiteful defeat,
And continuous “break ups to make ups”.
Our time was coming to end
We both knew
But I hoped you could at least
Send your endless love as you told me,
Instead I found out and
Ended it before you could.
No more games with you
But I will pray
That you go back to being you
So your heart can go back to being
truly true.
