Remember Me?
I wonder if he remembers
a fifteen year old girl
walking home from school
puffy jacket
oversized backpack
panting slightly
humming gently
I wonder if he remembers
sitting in a gray lawn chair
in someone else's driveway
I wonder if he remembers
she waved
"Hi"
it was a passing politeness
I wonder if he remembers
her face froze as she saw his hands move
"Come here"
it was a lingering lump in her throat
He probably doesn't remember
three and a half blocks later
when she started crying
and frantically screaming inside
what would she tell her dad?
I'm sure he doesn't remember
three and a half months later
when she heard footsteps behind her
on the way home from school
and wished desperately to disappear
into her puffy jacket
He doesn't have to remember
She will remember
not him, exactly
but fear
