The Roots of Home

Trees are planted
Trees grow
Trees change
But trees never leave
Trees stay
Trees stand-
and watch the movement around them

The Tree family liked this idea…
So they grew
they changed
But the trees never left
They stayed
and stood
and watched their little Ohio town…move around them
The Trees hated change
no wonder they were republican

Mike Tree did not feel planted
He felt stuck, he felt caged, he felt trapped
Dragged down by the roots of home
The roots of family
And the roots of fear
But he would not let dirt bury his life like his families
Mike would “make like a tree and leaf”
Like the breeze shakes the branches

So Mike dreamed of the highest place he could go-
Every night Mike gazed up
He dreamed about pulling his roots so far out
he’d be in space
He would not let anyone…or anything get in his way

So Mike worked-
He trained, and tried, and eventually triumphed
Millions of thoughts had gone into Mikes journey
Every detail…
Every date, time, moment had been perfectly planned
Especially the date and the year

Texas is the only state that allows absentee ballots to be cast from space.

Mike had a horrible secret
One he could not tell to his family
One that would bring about endless wars in his house

Mike was a democrat
He knew revealing this was the worse thing he could do
Mike strived for adventure but kringed at drama
Mike’s perfectly planned take off date was…November 5th 2012

He would not help the republicans win his swing state of Ohio
…Mike would be as far away from a voting booth as possible
