Favorite Quote:
“She seems so cool, so focused, so quiet, yet her eyes remain fixed upon the horizon. You think you know all there is to know about her immediately upon meeting her, but everything you think you know is wrong. Passion flows through her like a river."

This house
Has not forgotten you
Though we talk like normal
And laugh and hope and fake
This house would not forget

Though you've made your decision
This house wants you back
And when faced with the thought
Of you being run over
Or shot
Or taken by icy winter fingers
This house begins to cry

Days turned into weeks
And somehow, when we weren't looking
Weeks were years
And this house thought of you often
And choked out your name
And begged you to return
And searched
But this house gave up

And in the hazy yellow
Of summer and autumn changing shifts
Along came your replacement
He was nothing like you
Yet exactly the same
And just what this house needed
And just when the leaves began to fall
This house began to heal

You don't know what it feels like
To lose someone
Only what it feels like to leave
And never come back
And forget
But if you haven't forgotten
And you want to come back
This house will still be here.

The author's comments:
A few years ago, my cat, who had been feral before we adopted him, ran away. After looking for him for about two and a half years (and seeing him several times but being unable to catch him) we accepted that he preferred the wild life. It was difficult, but we got through it. I wrote this poem to symbolize my family's reaction towards this event.
