Tilt the world
(the yellow lichen world)
and find that every branch
is stained
and waiting for a sideways-sun

and count the gold
(the falling plated gold)
and find that all the leaves
are much like hands who work
or stars who set
and all the falling leaves

are everywhere
are not like us
are teaching quietness
for when (at last)
they go.

The author's comments:
If you climb trees in early autumn, and line your gaze with lines of branches, see that with the yellow lichen everywhere, there are HILLS and HORIZONS, and they're waiting for lots of suns to rise, sideways, or for you to tilt the world.
