Over the Edge
As the world spins too fast,
The people on it run
Right over the edge of the sidewalk.
Everything turns upside down,
Into a world of few crosses
And onto a path of brittle cracks.
With a sky smeared by a hand of grease
And trees,
Holding out their slivers of silver bone
Out into the air
That's biting your shoulder with cold teeth.
Curiosity is followed
As she dances on the hard cement,
Playfully twirling,
Luring you further.
Each step becomes heavier,
Each heartbeat becomes harder,
Until you turn around and realize,
You can no longer see the end of the sidewalk.
