our pain is not your pain
the honesty was polished out of the wooden doors
they shone so blindingly bright that you could almost see
your humanity and
morality leaving you as you walked into the courtroom
you sat in the jurors’ box like a spectator
watching them auction off the worth of a life
death is a natural part of life
persecution is a natural part of life
injustice is a natural part of life
you swallowed their lies
you ate their horrors to keep from starving
you left the court
laid your conscience on your bedside table and slept
as someone’s son slept in a newly dug grave
and you wear your politically correct skin
your words are colorblind
you occupy your streets and you crucify mine
it is so easy to mourn a death you wouldn't let into your own home
my people are dying
my people are dying, do those words taste like equality

“She seems so cool, so focused, so quiet, yet her eyes remain fixed upon the horizon. You think you know all there is to know about her immediately upon meeting her, but everything you think you know is wrong. Passion flows through her like a river."
