The Incredibly Heartbroken Sestina
There is nothing more peaceful than you
floating in a blue sea. I
am next to you, never without
my heart to take it all in. We must
swim our way back home, caught on
a whim in the blue sea, away we go.
Into the theater we go,
my heart pumping with excitement, you
calm as low tide. I place my head on
your chest, sink into you. I
feel at peace finally, but I must
be careful, soon I will be without.
Your eyes under the stars without
fear like mine. We should go
far away to a wondrous place. It must
have a view of all of these stars. I
saw the lights and we went on.
The end of a year, we lay on
your tiny bed, without
reservations, speaking of our future. I
wanted to go
there with you
but we never did. I thought it was a must.
There must
have been something going on
in the heavens, placing you
and I together without
making us realize where it would go,
no longer we, but I.
I
must
go
on
without
you.
I am but a fool, standing with hope on a cloud
that inevitably dissipated beneath my tiny feet. Without
you I am alone, but alone I should and will go.
