Permanent Winter
She ran so far, thought she was chasing the sun.
Now she waits at a bar no more heart left to run.
Haunted by this cities games, this cruel joke.
Her dreams go down in flames, up in smoke.
Always looking over her frail shoulder, afraid of what she’ll see.
So young but each day looking older, afraid of what she’ll be.
Fading dreams and off white lies,
Hellos ripped at the seams, painful goodbyes.
Makeup covers the scars and years of shame.
She’ll make up her heart to hide fear and blame.
She’ll paint on a smile, put the light back in her eyes,
It takes a while, but even she’ll believe her masked disguise.
A permanent high dive, she won’t come down.
She feels so alive, but her thoughts she can’t drown.
The nightmare shock, the daylight grows cold and bitter.
She will stay locked in this permanent winter.
