House of Love
If my love were a house
I'd talk to you on the porch
lock my doors and close my blinds
Quiet the dogs and hide the keys
I'd smile and ask you to sit
We'd catch up on lost time
Your eyes would wonder
But I'd know what you'd be looking for
My hands would be still
And you'll wonder where my nervousness has gone
I'd hide my contempt and my fear
Your smile will be as inviting as always
and your laugh ever so charming
It would feel like nothings changed
I'm fifteen again, and you, sixteen
we would still look young
and be so very naive
But one look into your eyes
would remind me that we've grown old
the jokes arent as funny
and the years have worn us out
You'd wonder what i've been doing
and I'd respond curtly
The sun would set
you'd look into my house of love
and I'd ask you to leave
there's only vacancy for one
