Empty Words
Broken promises,
Swirl in my head,
I remember asking you, I remember what you said,
“Can I trust you? Will you always be there?”
I was scared to care so much for a boy I loved, my best friend, you replied,
“Forever and always, we’ll always talk, I’ll come and visit”.
I trusted you, with everything.
Those words fooling me into thinking it would be alright,
Those words I asked, dead serious,
Not wanting to hurt, not wanting to yield, not wanting to trust another boy who would leave.
You tricked me again, you’re the worst of them all, my best friend, you said, I’ll help you up when you fall.
Those empty promises you spoke to me,
I wish you’d just set me free.
From your lies and your half truths,
You’re empty words, they mean nothing.
They don’t mean anything when you can’t stick around to prove them right.
I’m fallen now! You put me here! You picked me up just to shove me down, onto the concrete, onto the cold hard ground. You broke my heart, throwing words around, and now I can’t don’t want to get back up from the ground.
It serves me right for trusting a boy,
Too nice, too sweet,
I loved him so complete.
Those empty words, promises he dealt,
I believed in them,
A fool I was!
The words of a boy mean nothing to no one, when he doesn’t have the guts to see what he’s done,
For he’ll wait ‘till you’ve fallen,
Then walk away,
No matter how hard you try,
How loud you cry,
He won’t stay.
He’ll tear you apart, from the inside out,
he won’t stay,
He won’t keep his promises,
No,
He’ll just walk away.
