Messages Under Your Pillow
Sometimes, I leave messages under your pillow.
I place them
gently,
with doubt,
not wanting to perturb your sleep.
I sit,
with my feet crossed,
and watch
with hopes
that you would awaken.
I see from my window
a boat
waiting to drive me to sea,
swaying over broken waters.
That boat is my metaphor,
ready to seek new lands,
but it is anchored,
kept at bay by ropes,
the same ropes
which keep me at your heels.
