Winds died today,
clouds froze,
and seas stretched into steel.

The birds
linger in the backwoods eerily,
silent as woodcarvings,
empty as hollows.
The world
slowly curls,
shriveling like fruit,
as the man
raises his pitchfork towards the sky.
