For Now
I am here. Now.
In this moment
Which none other could compare
And to which none other would pale.
I feel
As no picture nor painting nor writing
Could ever compose
In quite the way it was.
I am behind no glass,
Nor in no ink,
That could ever lock me away
Or fade with time.
That could ever touch me
As I am now.
There is no sunset I can reach
That will not change and run from me
Right when I think I have reached
The Kingdom of the Stars.
No horizon that will ever be
More beautiful
Or true
To these eyes I wear now
Than this one before me here.
And it will not matter.
Because these moments are ours
Alone.
Not the artist’s,
Nor the writer’s,
Nor the poet’s.
Because there will never be
A sky like this one
Above us,
Below us,
Or in our lungs,
Like this one that fills us here,
Forever.
For now.
