My Thoughts

I’m sitting at this desk, trying to stay awake
Almost every adult tells me, it all starts with a determined mind and focused self
Knowing that you have to deal with the stress of work, school, and having a social life
I’m trying to write down every goal I want to achieve,
But as I look at this blank paper,
All I want to do is scribble, and clear my mind for a second.
My grandmother once told me,
“It is all up to you to dig in your own heels, or not
To look for difficult bumps in the road, or have an ace up your sleeve.”
There’s a lot to be done, every night staying up,
Writing essay after essay, writing everything I can possibly think of.
It’s all dedication, like playing sports,
The more you sweat, the closer you are to your goals.
Creep around, look at everyone in my class as they stare at their own paper:
Different hair color, different clothing, different shoes, different book bags,
Different everything; everyone appears to be unique.
It feels so boring being here, attempting to pay attention to my teacher,
But all I can think about is my future.
Is it worth learning what’s being taught to me? Or is it just basic knowledge that I know that will get me far?
For right now, all I know is that I need to turn my scribbles into my own words,
So all my worries will fly out.
