It Started with a Smile
It all started with a smile.
The smile led you on, keeping you intrigued.
You pressed on in search for that smile again.
It never came.
You went out in search of that smile many more times.
It never came.
You did not press on.
You got knocked down, trampled on, and held back.
You sat alone and confused.
You sat wondering what was wrong, what you had done.
You got tired of hoping, and expecting.
And stopped.
You stopped feeling, as if you had just gone numb from everything around you.
All the wonderful times you had, the memories you made faded away.
A smile came back.
But this time, the smile was different.
You had seen this smile before.
This was the smile you walked away from.
Nevertheless this smile picked you up.
This smile brought you to your feet, stood you back on solid ground.
This smile didn’t turn you away, this smile was real, it was genuine.
You looked over this smile once, but not again.
Instead.
You smiled back.
