How it feels to burn
but now it's like bare feet on burning pavement
if your toes touch the floor for one second too long,
they scorch
so you run
but the farther you go, the more your feet burn
each step hurts more
each step forward make you wonder why you ever left
you want to crumble from the pain,
go crawling back to
his voice: is he even calling you back?
the farther you
run, the harder it is to
go
to leave this place and his gaze and all of your memories
from before the fire started
but you have to escape
before the real fire starts
