Unexpected
A girl
Walking
In her
Pink princess frills
and her
Poofy little skirt.
“Mommy,”
She says
In her sweet little voice
Blue eyes
Innocent
and wide with curiosity
“Why does that girl have rings in her lip?”
The mother
Smiles down
at the girl
with her poofy little skirt
And her pink princess frills
and says
“Because,”
she smiles,
knowing, and understanding,
“That’s what she wanted.”
The little girl,
Not meaning any harm,
Looks at
the blue-haired girl,
with rings in her lip,
her style dark
But only because she liked it that way
“I’ll never want to look like that.”
The mother laughed,
Not in a mean way,
and said
“You might be different
than you expect to be,
my dear”
She lifts her daughter,
lovingly and gently
“You’ll just have to wait,
and see.”
?
A girl
Walking
In her
Ripped skinny jeans
and her
Blue hair and lip-rings,
“Mommy,”
She says,
In her quiet voice,
Blue eyes
With dark eye makeup,
and wide with realization,
“You were right.”
She smiles,
“I am different than I expected to be.”
