when the world seems to merge
into one being—
There’s a quiet hum
under the symphony
of birds chirping, accompanied
by the neighborhood dogs’ barks.

The orchestra stops its melody
when the sun becomes so radiant
that even the shadows emit its light.

And when the song starts up again,
I join in.

The author's comments:
I was taking my dogs for a walk and the air seemed different, almost surreal and definitely calmer than usual. And them boom! When I got home, I broke out my legal pad and wrote it. (BTW, read the title as part of the poem!)
