She Died on a Wednesday
“That’s just grand.” The people say
in bittersweet fashion
as they light cigarettes
and take their seats for the funeral
“Wednesday would be the best day
to say goodbye
to the life you’ve known,
if you were forced to.”
“On Wednesday
there is no sense of joy
that you would experience
like you would on the weekend.”
“Monday and Tuesday
are heavy and dragging
while Thursday and Friday
serve for anticipation.”
“Yes,” they all sigh.
“It would be a shame
if she were to die
on any other day of the week.”
But the people whose lives she touched know
that she would have preferred to die on a Sunday
because that’s when she didn't have to worry about
getting the mail
