Of Everything You Could Have Said
Of everything you could have said
you chose the words that hurt the worst,
the words I never believed you'd say,
I gave them to you because I trusted you
and now they've been said
in the most unkindly way.
Of everything you could have said,
you used the words unheard by any
who I did not trust,
and you used them to break a sacred trust
that was given to you in innocence
and now that innocence is shattered.
Of everything you could have said
you took my secret you were supposed to keep
and threw it to the ground,
leaving it to be trampled by the feet
of those who would gladly crush
all hope of mine for their own pleasure.
Of everything you could have said
you chose to tell him of my love,
to break my heart and watch me shatter.
Of everything you could have said.
