If it were up to me MAG
I have been thinking lately
about the things I am expected
to live up to
and the tasks that we
are all expected to
succeed in.
I have been thinking lately
about the grades I am getting
and the social life I have to live
and how I must not
under any circumstances
fail my algebra final
or be at home on a
Friday night.
And then I got to thinking;
do I even care?
What do I care?
If it were up to me,
we would have no society
and run around naked,
and eat of the Earth
and experience pure joy
like they did in the garden of
Eden.
If it were up to me,
life would have no expectations,
and all we had to do
was live and be
happy and
free.
If it were up to me,
we would paint our lives
the way we see it
and according to our spirits
and we would paint it
on the blank canvas
set out before us
called life.
But it is not up to me.
And I can't live the life I want to
because I am too busy
living up to the expectations
of what we have
created.
