Does it matter that I never talk?
Does it matter that I preserve my thoughts?
Does it matter I think more than talk?
Does it matter that I say only what
I feel is necessary to say at the moment.
Does it matter I keep the thoughts
I think in my head and put it into words.
Does it matter that I am different?

Does it matter to me?
No.
But does it matter to the rest of the world?
Yes.
From what I observed from my point of view,
All they want to do is talk.

Does it matter that I am quiet
And don’t prefer to talk in class.
Then what I get from being me is
Ridicule of my thoughts that I rarely share aloud
And that I need to participate more in class.

I may say to myself, it doesn’t matter
But each day people ridicule me
For my thoughts, opinions and actions.
They can do it for weeks on end
And yet I still reject their comments
And still it affects me a bit each day.

Does it matter that I might be the only one?
Does it matter there may be many
Out in the world not as lucky as me,
Where no one accepts them for who they are.
Does it mean I am truly free of being singled out?
By people in my classes at school.

No,
I am not truly free,
But others aren’t so lucky.
I am not speaking for me,
I am speaking for all like me in the world.
I am not free, others are not free,
But does it matter who we are?
Does it matter what we like,
Does it really matter that much
That we treat them less than others?
