Riding into the Future
I was so comfortable there on the pale green cushioned seats
Across the aisle seeing a toddler looking at the sippy cup just out of reach
The mother of the boy sitting there only physically, her phone glued to her ear
Occasionally the girl with the cart full of coffee and muffins would shuffle by
Though none of the distractions could pull me away from the pink and orange splashed sky
It must have been the monotonous rumble of the tracks putting me in some sort of trance
But off in the distance a string of warm yellow glistening city lights lined the hill tops
The city light glow left perfect silhouettes of power lines and looked as if they had no stop
With each and every blink the country around me became darker
The city light’s glow became brighter
And my dreams became closer.
