Friendship Over Seas
We met when I was seven
They left when I was eleven
They just moved in the neighborhood
And immediately changed my childhood
I was playing in my front yard when they walked by
Friends from the moment we said hi
From that very second we were inseparable
Everything we did was memorable
Two birds of a feather
We did everything together
We had so many memories
We became each other’s necessities
Years passed
They left too fast
The memory reappears
I was in tears
I walked through their empty home
And for once, I felt completely alone
I remember holding her Boston terrier
In real life, it felt so much scarier
The cold concrete under my feet
The car already halfway down the street
Watching her scream and pound at the car window
My stomach never felt so hollow
Her sister left a few days later
Making the pain so much greater
My hands danced around a BFF charm on my necklace
I stood in the front yard so helpless
Watching as she was driven away
Why couldn’t they just stay?
It felt like we were related
Even though we were separated
By thousands of miles over seas
We were still as close as we could ever be
