modern romance
i cant help but analyze
the <3 you used on facebook chat
and the four exclamation points you added
after typing your nickname for me in all capital letters
if thats not a modern-day expression of love
i dont know what is
maybe im overanalyzing
and weaving tapestries of hopeful expectations
from threads that do not even exist
but i would rather create this beautiful textile of lies
than miss the hints you may be dropping,
silently hoping i will pick them up
im sorry im not much good at reading people
but you are a novel i would like to peruse
until the page corners are permanently pressed
thats just who i am, i suppose
to take the <3 of modern romance
and add a traditional twist
