Fly Girl
She stood atop the skyscraper
And pondered the lengthy height
Wonder if this choice she’d make
Would be a wrong or right.
Backed away, decided no
And to her house she went
But evicted from her home, she was
Since unpaid was the rent.
Homeless, nothing to call abode
She slept out on concrete
Her head tossed to and fro
By many busy feet.
No coins to drop into her cup
So her pockets were quite hollow
Not a blanket to warm up in,
Not a single crumb to swallow.
Her parents would not take her in
And neither would her friends
So she wandered on, alone and cold
Through a world of twists and bends.
Things were so gloomy and gray
Until she came across
A boy who wore nothing but a towel,
And he asked, “Are you, too, lost?”
They kept each other company
Throughout those endless days
But although they were with each other
They couldn’t navigate through the haze.
So they stood on that tall skyscraper
In the stormy weather
She clasped her mate’s right hand, and said,
“Now we can fly together.”
