Little girl
I hear you speaking to me,
Oh behold, such a beautiful voice,
Such relief, such pain,
Whispering in the dark,
Against the shadows,
The danger lurking behind you,
And you, unaware.
Open you eyes pretty face,
Look at what the world is,
Do you not fear the treatment you’ll receive?
The people around you,
They look at you,
Wanting to hurt you.
“And who shall thou art be?” you ask me.
I was what you will be, I tell you.
I was a mumma’s girl,
And a daddy’s sweetheart.
I was the caring sister,
The emotional girl,
The best friend, and the worst one too.
And now I am nothing.
Bygone, forgotten.
Beware o’ little girl,
Be scared of the world,
Because as soon as you step out,
It will kill you,
Crush you and your hopes and dreams,
Trod upon your little body,
And end your life before it starts.
Beware o’ little girl,
Of what you might face if you survive,
The injustice, the harassment,
The comments, the pain,
And no one will hold you and tell you it’s okay.
Beware o’ little girl,
It’s a big bad world,
You’ll be alone at every step,
There’ll be no one to guide you.
Rest o’ little girl,
Rest in peace.
