The Cracks in the Pavement
I’m in love.
I’m in love with my full tank of gas
and the knob of my radio turned towards the right.
I’m in love with my brown sunglasses and the sunset
and the hair blowing behind my face.
I’m in love with the man walking his dog
the little boys playing ball in the street
the woman out for a jog
and the little girl in the pink dress riding her bicycle.
I’m in love with the smell of my car
and the dirt on my windshield
and the cracks in the pavement that shake me awake.
I’m in love with the little green buds that I know will bloom when March comes
I’m in love with the sunflowers that will grow in the summer.
I’m in love with the lightning and thunder that will come with the next storm
and I’m absolutely in love with the idea of dancing in the rain.
Soon the sun will set and I will have to go home.
I’ll have to put my car to sleep in the garage
and drag myself upstairs to bed.
But right now,
I’m in love.
