You Give Me Life
when the sound of doorknobs
makes her hold her breath
you hold her
and when you feel
ghosts of fingers
wrapped around your wrist
she tackles their shadows
with tenderness
she hums lullabies and you
kiss her hair
and fall asleep entangled
sometimes you speak for days
and sometimes you don't speak at all
and she whispers
"you give me life"
