Why is the man in the coat afraid?
Sinking into my awareness,
We both know whats going on,
his body told his mind to run,
so he brought me along,
the doors of a quiet bank open,
people all around us,
his senses are aware of everything,
from the faint smell of sweaty, cheap bankers,
to the gentle sight of a young family,
a leather trench coat covers my location,
on the hip of my owner,
six months ago I was purchased,
every single night,
he'd load me,
aim,
finger on my trigger,
laugh, then simply place me down,
I had not realized the trouble to come,
I fear that soon,
he may fall to the ground,
where the cold world will swallow him whole,
I've made mistakes before,
my kind always has,
and we're just learning.
I see shine through to my metal nozzle,
from there,
I feel his nervous hand caress my handle,
he tells himself he's not scared,
but if that were true,
we wouldn't be here in the first place,
I want him to know that this doesn't need to be done,
that there are other ways out,
out of this fear that engulfs him,
but it's too late,
the man pulls me out in plain sight,
screams,
terror,
anxiety,
all captured in a matter of seconds,
I ponder why is he afraid?
What is he afraid of?
Then a T.V.
in the upper right corner of the bank,
catches my attention,
a man stands with a classy suit,
a plastic smile,
and says "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."
The man pulls the trigger.
