Nightmare
Lay your head to sleep my dear
And you shall surely see
The darkness lurking in my head
From which I can’t break free
You cannot run and hide from it
No you cannot escape
The shadows right behind your head
Or the little black snowflakes
Eyeless beasts with terrible fangs
Will circle in your mind
And I really do apologize
You can’t escape this time
Oh please don’t sob
There’s something I left out
None of this is real, my love
So nevermore pout
You will wake up soon
With sunlight in your face
I did not mean to scare you, dear
Or make your little heart race
The monsters you feared are you
And all inside your head
‘Twas only a nightmare
All of those feelings of dread
