For My Generation
There is something great inside, just waiting to be released
Something great no one will ever expect from a person like me
Statistics say African American girls begin corruption at age 16
Here I stand 18 and corruption free
The world says there’s no hope for my generation
Yet here I stand graduating on time with plenty of accolades
I am standing to defy the odds
To prove the rumors wrong
To let the world know there is hope for todays young adults
And to let my peers and the ones looking up to me know that anything is possible
To let them know they don’t have to be what the world says they have to be
Cause regardless of what the world says I’m gone make it and they can too
Cause deep down inside they posses the power and the strength to do anything and be anything, they just need to tap into it
So here’s to my generation, I stand for us
We are everything they told is we could not be
