Gym Class
When I try
to make the bat “crack”
or the net “swish”.
The bat whistles through the air
a foot from the ball,
and the net stays silent
as I awkwardly jog to fetch my airball.
I feel ashamed
as my team groans,
“How could she miss it again?”
I lost the game.
They've come to expect it though.
Utter failure courses through my veins,
blooming in my cheeks.
The gym teacher
finally blows the whistle
and we head back to the locker rooms
where my blundered shot is
forgotten.
Until the next day,
when I do it all again
