Nature's Lover
i took you out on the first day of spring
to the lake near the mountains
and you decided you were a nymph
so you swam in the water until i saw your lips turn blue
and i had to wade in and pull you out
i took you out on the first day of summer
and we traveled to the beach
because you said you loved to feel the sand between your toes
and you spent hours bent over seashells until i saw your cheeks flaming red
and i had to carry you home before you got sun poisoning
i took you out on the first day of fall
since there was a nearby park
where you simply adored chasing squirrels up trees
and i let you wander around the branches until i saw your eyes drooping
and i forced you to come down before you fell down and broke your neck
i tried to take you out on the first day of winter
but you said there was nowhere to go
so i came over and i was so happy you stayed beside me
until your eyes glazed over
and i realized you could never be mine
