My Childhood
When I was 4 I woke up at eight in the morning every day
My mom got me cereal and I watched the same 9 shows until lunch.
And whether I was paying attention or not they were there for me.
Bob the builder and his talking tractors. Dragon tales,
Clifford the big red dog, The powerpuff girls
The Wiggles, Backyardigans, wonder pets, teletubbies and
Blue’s clues was my favorite.
I grew up on these shows and I don’t regret a thing
It was easy back then and these characters were my friends
But my world is changing faster than the backyardigans
When they went on an adventure,
And my childhood is fluttering out the window like the
Wonder pets boat.
Bob the builder now has Alzheimer’s and can’t remember
His tractors names
The dragons tales dragon scale has been lost and nearly forgotten.
Their world is lost and rotting
And they had to bring in 6 tractors to dig Clifford a grave
And I know Emily Elizabeth is crying along with us
The wiggles are old but their songs still survive
Along with the children’s small t-shirt I have with them on the front
The chemical x that created the powerpuff girls destroyed them in
The end, the ‘cause the sugar, spice and everything nice wasn’t
Good enough for focus groups of girls ages 4 to 8 and more.
All of blue’s clues have been found
And the teletubbie’s sun has set for the last time
But if I could hang out with them for one more day
Believe me I would.
