Isaac's Arrival
Isaac could hear deafening sounds
all around him,
Coming from every direction,
but all he saw was suffocating blackness.
He felt the soil flutter beneath him
and he felt so serene, content,
like he had been in deep slumber
for years.
He felt his body recollecting itself
and he felt a numb tingle
Slowly running down his spine.
He gathered strength
within his fatigued soul,
and his eyes flew open.
He was overcome with
utter disorientation.
He tried to make out the blurred landscape
around him,
His vision began to clear
and he was engulfed by the
thick, rich, green
everywhere
it seem to swallow him.
The jungle around him bustled lively
with noises he'd never heard before
colors he'd never seen before
things he'd only thought existed
in wild daydreams.
Then his line of sight shifted
to the white clouds above him
the yellow sunlight
the white.....
clouds.....
It all came rushing back to him
like a sudden, splitting migraine
he remembered falling
falling at sickening speeds
the wind
the open air
nothing to grasp
the flittering panic
and the blackness that followed.
He jerked up
wide eyed
and then suddenly
the pain shot
like stabbing knives
up his legs and spine
he cried out in agony,
clutching himself.
He felt uncomfortably dizzied
by the unaccustomed feeling
of gravity.
The wings that
draped behind him
where crushed and frail,
no longer strong and mighty.
His broken legs
brought him no aid
as he stretched a determined hand
up to the sky
that he had so unjustly lost.
Overcome with grief,
his whimsically silver eyes
formed the tears of a fallen star
sobs racked his body.
The wind blew gently around him
in sorrow.
The trees bowed
in somber affection
for heaven's loss.
The sun dimmed in sadness
as Isaac collapsed in anguishing despair
he did not belong here
he could not survive here
he was a creature meant to soar,
not stride.
Mourning his angelic descent,
Eden wept,
Heaven cried.
