Five.
Twice now I have looked at you
twice three times four times
fifth time you look too
but turn
as if none of it
mattered.
It seemed yesterday
you were who
you’ve always been
and today
you’ve decided
to forget that and
put on your stage makeup
and perform an act
for the world
that will last for who knows how long
because twice months have passed
twice three times four times
and suddenly it will be
five months without us
talking, speaking, laughing,
as we did before
and then it will be five
years
five
decades
lost minutes
wrapping around you
until you forget
that your life was just
a show
in the first place.
