Silver Goldfish
You See with the light of the Divine,
Descrying only that which you desire
So when the helmet of the astronaut fills not with oxygen
But with the water of a thousand dreams,
You can look at the goldfish swimming there and say
“No – it’s silver.”
But be careful what you wish for,
For when the faux reality comes crashing down,
You will be lost in the surrealty
Of glass shards splintering like water,
Reflecting the cobblestone-and-brick-lined road,
Where the light of your dream is just another
Fish bowl street-lamp
Every scarlet beta a drop
Of life’s-blood-aspirations
Flickering restlessly in solitary prison.
And I wonder – do you see what I see now?
