Science is getting more advanced
and that seems good at first glance
but even in science ignorance is bliss
so just put it in a petri dish

The world is great in many ways
the perfect place to waste our days
but history shows it’s not all dandy
not every child could have candy
not everyone could ride a bike
not everyone could take a hike
but how do people deal with this?
We put it in a petri dish

Sure I see you can sympathize
but you can never empathize
because no matter how hard anyone tries
you can never see it through their eyes

This does mean we cannot learn
To chew through books like a little worm
But never can we analyze
Because it’s not fascinating when someone dies

The author's comments:
In class we were discussing the book "Night" and my principal was there. She was speaking and she talked about the holocaust like it was some sort of science experiment. A friend of mine said "You're putting the holocaust in a petri dish" and people thought she meant we couldn't learn about it. When I tried to clear up what she meant, the class erupted into shouts of protest, and I was unable to finish. Then angry, I wrote out a poem as my reflection.
