On a Train
As I sit
On a train
Some thousand miles
Separating
You and I,
I press my fingers
into the bruises
on my side.
On my arm:
You gripped me too tight.
On my hip:
You pushed me too hard.
On my waist:
I can still feel your nails
clawing
into my skin.
"But God,"
You'd say,
ignoring my cries.
"I wouldn't have to do this
if you would only
listen."
But I did listen and
as you walked away
I realized what I hadn't
heard.
