Cardboard King
We fought in paper armor
Slashing with tin foil swords
We stabbed and bit and strangled
Till we hit the cardboard floor
All our days we’d been pretending
The garbage was our steel
All our nights we’d spend dreaming
Of how cold iron would feel
We grew tired of idle pleasantries
Lost our thirst for ketchup gore
As we talked of school and weather
In our hearts we wanted war
Every morning we prayed for battle
Before each fight we held our breath
We swatted tigers like paper cattle
We were bored, so bored of feigning death
And for glory,
We’d do anything
But we still bow down
To the cardboard king
