Heart of Rain
You didn’t want it to rain,
But I can tell you there is beauty in it.
It glistens in the fading light
Each drop a promise bursting on the pavement,
Laughing that if you come out, you can capture one on your tongue
But you decided to catch them in your eyes
And as they leaked out, rivulets now salty,
I knew that you were crying not at their splendor
But at the pain and loss of your memories
And I wanted to tell you that it’s okay
Cry them out with the rain
For then they will never bother you again.
But you hastily hid and wiped your eyes,
And all the while my heart ached even more for you
My tears mingled freely with the rain too
But I knew that I could never cry my heart out
Because my heart belonged to you
All I want you to see is the magnificence of life
Call it naivety, but anyone can see it
All they have to do is laugh with the sun
And cry with the rain
