3 a.m.
Because of you,
There’s a pain in my upper left shoulder
From when he shoved me up against the
Wall
To kiss- hard.
I tried the ointment
You gave me for the scars;
It helped for a while, and so did you caring-
But then it didn’t.
It’s cute how
You think you can fix me with
A long talk, and a good night’s sleep-
But I don’t get those anymore.
I don’t tell you
That I still keep all my baby shoes
In a much bigger shoebox in the closet-
You’d only give them away.
I lie awake
Making the movie of our perfect lives,
Because 3 a.m. knows me better
Than you ever will.
