Technology MAG
Smart isn't smart
Nor a goal to strive for
No, not anymore
Now that all of the girls
Have traded their books
For nights under the covers
And all of the boys
Have traded their brains
For alcohol with their buddies
And we've traded long division
For fancy calculators
That can find the square root
Of 8 billion thirty-two thousand
In the blink of an eye
While we type a four-page essay
New generations ask what cursive is
A ninth grader could barely tell them
They haven't touched it
Since the fourth grade
Or maybe it was third
Possibly years from now
My grandkids won't know
What a paperback book is
Because they have a Kindle
Or some new electronics
That stores 600 books in one device
For the age of research
Has gone from libraries
To Google
A computer does our thinking for us
So what is smart?
Is it you?
Your computer
Or just a word?
