I still remember
How we first met
Out by the city pool
The sun gleaming off the crystal blue water

I was frozen near the edge
Afraid to jump into the gloomy abyss
But suddenly I was falling
Due to a playful push from you

I hit the water screaming
My breath swiftly stolen under the surface
You jumping in after me
Smiling and giggling as you surrender to the pool

I met your soft hazel eyes
Mystified by their calming gaze
You hook your arm with mine
Pulling me out of my despair

We surface from the water
Air flowing into my lungs
We stare into each other's eyes
While a grin spreads across our faces

Ten years forward in time
And a lot has changed
We dawn a cap and gown
Holding each other's hands

In those ten years we formed a link
A link of friendship that stands the test of time
We toss our caps into the sky
While we celebrate with a gentle kiss

That night we cuddled under the stars
Laying on the fresh cut grass
The light gentle breeze
Tossing out hair in the air

We stand and walk to the car
Buckling in as we gaze at each other
You lean over and plant a warm kiss on my cheek
I smile and start driving into the night

The car radio is pumping out gentle tunes
I glance over to admire you
Just as a truck crosses the median
You scream out as we collide

I wake up in a daze
Hanging upside down from my seat
Your bloody arm brushes against me
While you hang lifelessly from your seatbelt

I frantically feel for your pulse
Which is still there but very faint
Your heat starts pumping erratically
And then stops underneath my hand

I hang there in disbelief
Frozen like I was at the pool
Too afraid to jump into the unknown
As sirens speed toward me and her corpse

Today the sun in camouflaged
Behind the dark and gloomy clouds
I walk among the dead
Their names forever carved in stone

Her name jumps forth
Stealing my gaze
My feet start to run
Toward her granite stone grave

I kneel and bow my head
I place my hands on her tomb
My bones melting with delight
Positive energy surging throughout my shell of a body

Memories flood my mind
Of her and I swimming in the pool
Of her and I cuddling under the stars
Of her and I sharing that one last kiss

Tears swell up and shine in my eyes
They fall upon the ground
Disappearing underneath the soil
Touching the coffin far below
