When It Hurts the Most
It hurts me the most when I see you turn away
You may think it would be the words
so angrily spat
or the glares
so deadly and cruel
but what stings the sharpest
what shatters my heart
Is when you turn your back
Walk away in disappointment
Stare at me with those sad eyes
It makes me want to cry
Take back all I have done
Fall at your feet and beg
for a chance to redeem myself
Yet you don’t stay to listen
It is too late
You think I hate it when you yell
I do, but that’s not the worst
You think when I cry it’s because of your words
And although those still sting
They’re not what crush me
What shatters my heart
is when you turn your back
walk away in disappointment
stare at me with those sad eyes
Because anger is bluster,
the words you speak then are not your own
but the times when you whisper,
those are the times
when it hurts the most
