Prep School Survival Guide
I walked onto planet J.Crew
And knew right away
That my old combat boots
Would make me a castaway.
Still, I made some friends
With styles like mine.
That I should care what they thought
Never even grazed my mind.
For these Cape Code fools
Eyed me from near and far!
“How dare she be herself
This is prep school, after all”.
But I knew better than to retaliate,
To stoop to their level.
So I walked on by, head held high
Stomping my combat boots from the thrift store.
They will tear you down, they will hurt.
But know it’s only because they’re part of a herd
That cannot fathom difference without pariah.
So stay true to you, and leave the rest up to karma.
